My Chinese girlfriends in Taiwan always traveled for free. My closest friend Penny in
Taiwan was married to the richest family on the Island. She is American and was very discrete
about the situation. Her husband although Taiwanese, had an American passport. She was
embarrassed that anyone would know that she wanted to do any business as the family was so
wealthy. The Taiwanese woman all had secret bank accounts in the post office provided by the
government to protect themselves in case of divorce or anything that could go wrong in life. My
girl friend being an American as well as myself couldn’t figure out how these Taiwanese women
did all this travel and earned all this money. We began to try ourselves. As we had no experience
we failed at each project we did.
The Taiwanese said they would take a suit case of clothes to the USA and it paid there airline
ticket. Try as we would Penny and I couldn’t get it up and running. After getting divorced and the
State Department don’t run on the same rules as the normal American government, I had to figure
out how to earn a living. Music is only good if you have a sponsor. One year my head was tired from
trying and trying to put up my antenna to figure out how to do this. After many years now it is automatic.
When someone says I can’t get something, I say I’ll get it for you. First it was fax machines then
materials to make guitars like tuning machines and wood. This trip I found electric tuners and decorated
watches as well as bones for guitars. I learned from my Taiwanese girl friends how to survive in a
tradition manner.
